Audi has commenced production of its Q5 in India.
The firm will build around 1500 Q5 units per year for the Indian market at Volkswagen Group’s Aurangabad plant alongside the A4 and A6.
Audi’s total production target for India s 6000 units by 2015; it sells the A4, A6 and Q5 alongside the A8, Q7, TT and R8 and is forecasting significant growth in the market in the coming years.
Audi’s sales in India in 2009 were more than 2400 units, up from 732 units the year before.
“The production of the Q5 is part of our long-term growth strategy in India,” said Frank Dreves, Audi board member for production: “The Indian market for automobiles will grow very rapidly, and the Q5 is the right automobile at the right time.”

Not really a big deal. Audi already builds the A4 in India, and A4, A6 and i think Q5 in China. It's for local consumption, not for export back to Europe and the rest of the world. So they say now... although to be fair, VAG have been building cars in China, South Africa, Brazil and Mexico for years and are yet to shut down any European factories as a result.

Los Angeles, while I understand your arguments you are missing the whole picture. For one the production is primarily to satisfy local demand and not a complete shift of production. Of course this might happen in due course and this is inevitable.
While you say employees striking for better conditions and pay, also understand that otherwise these employees will simply be unemployed. China and India are the most populated countries in the world and a huge number of these people are poor. A steady job is what most of these folks are looking for, while the wages converted into sterling pounds might look like a pittance it serves their living standards very well.
The only worry is Tata reading such news and scratching their heads regarding JLR.
