But no UK models are affected by stability issue

Toyota has announced a global recall of Toyota Land Cruiser Prado and Lexus GX460 models following a reported fault with its vehicle stability control system.

However, the recall only affects left-hand drive models and no right-hand drive Toyota Land Cruiser models sold in the UK fall are affected by the recall.

US magazine Consumer Reports gave the Lexus GX460, a car not sold in the UK, its ‘Do Not Buy’ rating after it discovered the car’s rear end “slid out until the vehicle was almost sideways before the electronic stability control system was able to regain control”.

The GX460 is based on the Land Cruiser, but UK models are not affected because right-hand drive models have a different weight distribution.

Reacting to the recall in the US, Lexus’s group vice-president and brand manager Mark Templin said, “From the moment we heard about this issue, Lexus and our dealers acted quickly to resolve the situation.

“Our dealers will now personally reach out to customers to set up appointments to make this modification. Lexus has always been about providing exemplary customer satisfaction and this will be another opportunity to demonstrate that.”

Re: Toyota recalls the Land Cruiser

Actually, having seen the video of the alleged offending oversteer, the only problem with the car is that it is made by the company which is the biggest competitor to the recently nationalised GM.

The oversteer (and body roll) was progressive, only provoked with extreme driving, and if anything less than you might expect for such a heavy tall car. Although the stability systems should have intervened quicker to quell the understeer, the car remains at least as safe as any car without stability systems, which is to say most cars of any type.

first, screw-up everything in a big way... so that you may be able to have a chance to exhibit some show-off "trying" to fix something that you should have done right since the begining.

AUTOCAR - “Our dealers will now personally reach out to customers to set up appointments to make this modification. Lexus has always been about providing exemplary customer satisfaction and this will be another opportunity to demonstrate that.” Now that's what I call positive spin.
