Styling kit for forthcoming CR-Z; no performance gains

Honda tuning arm Mugen has released first details of a sports kit for the forthcoming Honda CR-Z sports hybrid - but it doesn't significantly increase performance.

Mechanical changes include a sport exhaust, new air filters, sport suspension, uprated brakes and a tyre-monitoring system.

The styling package - which is unlikely to be offered in the UK - includes enlarged front and rear bumpers, a roof-mounted wing, rear diffuser, a variety of 17-inch alloy designs and LED daytime running lights.

Interior modifications include additional guages, a carbonfibre mirror and a special gearknob and floor mats.

In addition, Mugen officials haven't ruled out producing a version of the CR-Z with greater engine performance.

My first reaction was to laugh at this hideous monstrosity. That after thought exhaust, looks like someone forgot to cut a triangular hole in the rear valence so hey no problem, it will just poke out under it instead. Those wheels are awful and dare I say lookk far tto small against the rest of the car.

Can you substantiate your comment about the handling? Have you any evidence to suggest the average supermini will handle better?

The styling of this Mugen version is rather extreme (not to my taste that's for sure), but the standard car (once equipped with some decent sized wheels) looks very nice to my eyes.

I suggest you take a look at the rumoured Type-R version as reported by Autoexpress:

I think this version looks stunning and will give the CR-Z the proper peformance oriented model that it deserves; I truly hope it will make production...

Like putting a tutu on a pig. They have gone mad, this is no sports car, just a 2 door, not very eco car.

Honda may have created hybrids with the original insight, but it is way behind Toyota these days and their efforts or pretty second rate.
