Hot JCW version of Mini convertible revealed

These are the first official pictures of the Mini John Cooper Works Convertible, released ahead of the car’s public debut at the Geneva motor show in March.

The Mini JCW Convertible uses the same 1.6-litre turbocharged engine as the JCW hatchback, producing 208bhp, 192lb ft of torque and returning 39.8mpg on the combined cycle.

Like the regular hatch version, the Mini JCW Convertible gets a similar pack of mechanical upgrades over the mini Cooper S, including a new exhaust system, strengthened transmission, bigger brakes and a John Cooper Works accessories and aero kit.

The Mini JCW Convertible also gets air conditioning as standard and a new design of 17-inch alloy wheels.

As with all Minis, customers can expect an extensive options list; it’s likely to include the JCW handling kit, which firms up the car’s suspension.

The Mini JCW Convertible will also come with the electronic differential lock system as standard. This system, also fitted to the JCW hatchback, improves traction by braking spinning front wheels during hard mid-corner acceleration.

Prices will start at £23,470 when the new Mini John Cooper Works Convertible goes on sale at the end of March.
