Caterham Levante sells out
17 October 2008
Caterham has announced it has sold all eight of the £115,000 V8-powered RS Levantes that it plans to build.
The Levante is the most powerful Caterham ever made, and is set to be one of the quickest-accelerating cars ever produced, too. It uses a 500bhp supercharged 2.4-litre V8 engine which, combined with a 520kg kerbweight, results in a power-to-weight ratio close to the magic 1000bhp-per-tonne mark.
The RS Levante will be assembled by Hertfordshire-based RS Performance. Caterham claims that it should be capable of sprinting from rest to 60mph in under three seconds, going onto a limited top speed of 150mph.
The car will get a sophisticated traction control system, including launch function, to help deploy the engine’s prodigious power output.
Levante buyers will also be required to attend a two-day advanced driving course on delivery of their cars.
