Next C3 to be smaller and lighter

Citroen is aiming to introduce its new C3 hatchback by the beginning of 2010. The new Citroen C3 will take design cues from the recently revealed C3 Picasso MPV but still keep its own individual design.“We do not want to produce Russian dolls,” said Carlo Bonzanigo, head of concept design at Citroen, “and as long as we communicate clearly the values of the Citroen brand then we have a lot of freedom of design.”The company is remaining tight-lipped about the new Golf-rival, but expect it to be smaller and lighter than the current C3. Citroen is also making a push towards “a more upper-class, premium feel” across the range, according to Bonzanigo, so expect a big improvement in materials, layout and usable space inside the next C3.The stop-start system already in use in the current C3 hatch will also appear in the next-generation model and the new C3 Picasso.

Re: Scoop: New C3 hatchback

Thanks for clearing that up Mini1.

You made me laugh when you say Golf sized cars are small cars. Did you know that are the same width as a 1980's Mercedes E-Class and even the new Corsa has the same body width as a Rover 800? Cars today are far too big and overweight and it's not all down to safety, time to reverse this trend i think. After all, if you keep stretching the wheelbase and making them very wide, it makes them harder and harder to park. Indeed i have on occasion not been able to open my door in some car parks because of the width and my closer proximity to other vehicles.

Re: Scoop: New C3 hatchback

The C2 is the 3-door Fiesta rival. The C3 is the 5-door Fiesta rival. The C4 is the Golf rival. The C3, Fiesta, Clio and Mazda 2 are superminis. The C4, Golf, Focus and Megane are small family cars. And I actually think that most Citroens are quirky. The C5 is by far the quirkiest and bravest family saloon on sale at the moment. Pretty much all French cars are quirky in some way or another.

Re: Scoop: New C3 hatchback

if the C2 is a Fiesta rival and the C3 a Golf rival, whats the point of the C4 (which i thought was a Golf rival).
