All-new 2.0-litre turbocharged petrol engine to start at £28,760

The Audi A5 will get an all-new, 2.0-litre turbocharged engine as a more fuel-efficient alternative to the 3.0-litre V6. The 208bhp TFSI unit in the Audi A5 is based on the company's 1.8-litre engine, but has new ‘valve lift’ technology that aids economy and performance. The new sliding cam units enable the ECU to use a higher cam profile under heavy acceleration, or a more fuel-efficient, lower cam profile when the engine is under lower loads. As a result, the 2.0-litre engine has a massive 258lb ft of torque from 1500rpm – more than the 3.2-litre V6. The company claims the Audi A5 2.0 TFSI can reach 60mph in 6.9sec (0.7sec slower than the 3.2 V6), and produces just 154g/km of CO2 (42.8mpg).Prices for the Audi A5 2.0 TFSi start at £28,760 for the front-wheel drive model, and £30,285 for the Quattro all-wheel drive. First deliveries are expected in August.

If the car was perfect it would still might get its ass kicked by a gti with the same power. a golf gti is so much lighter than an A5, though it doesn't have 4wd or as much torque. over 250kgs penalty is just too much to compensate for in the A5.

golf gti 210ps 1318kgs

A5 2.0 tsi 211ps 1575kgs

I think without looking it up, the in-gear and 0-60 times are much of a muchness. I probably didn't use the best example but I still wouldn't expect to have my ass kicked by a car with the same engine in it, especially if the Golf was four-up (adding about 250kgs)!!

Did the garage give me the right car? I've had my A5 2.0 211 TFSI quattro for a year now... I follow the gear indicator and get 30 MPG tops. Its also very slow, and has a big load of turbo lag at about 2500 RPM. If it didn't look so nice I'd feel like a mug...

Interesting to hear mpg from someone who actually owns one. 30mpg seems very low considering the official consumption considering you claim to be driving carefully by lowing the gear indicators. Perhaps you're only doing short journeys?

Or perhaps you floor it more than you think. As for being slow... it's all relative. If you're getting your ass kicked by a Golf Gti then I suspect there is a problem!
