Ratan Tata completes tour of Jaguar Land Rover facility

Ratan Tata, chairman of the Indian-based Tata Group that recently concluded a deal to buy Jaguar and Land Rover, has completed a week-long tour of the two brands’ facilities. Tata visited three manufacturing plants at Solihull and Castle Bromwich in the Midlands, and Halewood in Liverpool, and this week he will fly to the United States to visit dealers in five major cities.Tata insiders say the new boss has been surprised and impressed with the warm of his reception and the ‘can do’ spirit of the companies. It is believed that he notes – and generally supports - a general desire within Jaguar’s management to do more to support the company’s claim to be ‘a sports car company’, though he is said to have made it clear that it will be the job of the existing management to find a business case for any new sports car.Tata’s top managers are believed to have endorsed Jaguar’s and Land Rover’s existing strategy and model planning until 2011, after which they are likely to take more of a hand in forward planning.
