They might call it a concept, but this is the real deal (again)

Forgive us if we sound more than a little indifferent, but these latest photos of the forthcoming new Mitsubishi Evo X aren't quite hitting the spot here at Autocar.

It's not that we don't like the car – we think it looks great, especially next to the new Subaru Impreza – it's just that this is still being touted as a concept.

We know, however, that this is 99 per cent the real, finished product (there's an extremely small chance of some extremely small exterior tweaks). It also looks pretty much identical to the Evo 'concept' shown at Detroit in January, plus every other Evo 'concept' we've seen over the past year.

To be fair, Mitsubishi's not alone in this tiresome constant release of 'teaser' images. BMW did it with the M3 'concept,' shown at Geneva in March and then revealed without a change a month later. Mini is also at it, with 'teaser' images of the new Clubman/Traveller/whatever spewing forth from Mini HQ ad nasuem.

The 'real' Evo X will be shown (let's face it, it's hardly going to be unveiled) at the Frankfurt motor show in September, before going on sale in Europe in December.

It promises to be a cracker, with the usual recipe of super-powerful turbocharged four-pot engine, all-wheel drive and more grip than Araldite. We guarantee that we'll be a lot more excited about it when we actually get behind the wheel.

This has surprised me - as though Citroen has rediscovered its mojo.
