Tiny electric-powered Mitsubishi van unveiled at Tokyo

Mitsubishi has confirmed that its i-MiEV electric car will go on sale in the UK at the end of 2010. Most pundits, however, reckon that the first major use of EVs will be with small delivery vans.

This is where the i-MiEV Cargo comes in. First shown at today’s Tokyo show the Cargo uses the same drivetrain at the passenger version. Behind its two front seats is a highly adaptable load bay.

Like the hatchback the electric battery delivers the equivalent of 63bhp to the rear wheels and fully charged the range is just under 100 miles.

There’s no word yet on whether the Cargo will end up being sold in the UK but if there is enough demand there’s no reason why it can’t join the passenger version.

Cool. Its strange how the general photo makes the back wheels appear smaller than the fronts.
