Hyundai has received more than 10,000 orders for its i10 city car since the UK’s scrappage incentive scheme started.
The Korean firm claims that one in every 12 scrappage orders placed across all manufacturers has been for an i10. Hyundai has taken more than 17,000 orders across its range since scrappage started, around 300 per day.

Hyundai has managed to secure extra i10s from its factory in Korea to ensure it can keep up with demand. Its import centre in Tilbury, Essex is working extra hours to try and maintain stock levels.
Tony Whitehorn, Hyundai’s managing director, said, “It’s crucial that we get the cars out to buyers as soon as possible, and not only because the customers want their nice new car. The government funds are fast running out, and we want to make sure Hyundai buyers can secure their slice of the scrappage handout before the scheme ends.”
The i20 has also sold well under the scrappage scheme, as it has received more than 5000 orders.
Hyundai says the most popular cars it has traded in towards a new model are the Ford Fiesta and Nissan Micra, with 1406 and 1076 trade-ins respectively.
