Toyota are set to launch the model in the US in 2011

Toyota’s iQ is set to go on sale in the US in 2011 badged as Scion, according to American reports.

The radical looking Scion iQ was first seen as a concept car at the New York Auto Show earlier this year.

The concept car had a more sporty design the standard Toyota iQ, with its lime green paintwork, 16-inch six-spoke alloy wheels and a “Five Axis” bodykit. However, these features are unlikely to make production.

To meet US crash regulations, the Scion iQ will be lengthened by 1.5inches. Its interior is also likely to get a redesign to be more suited to American tastes.

Power is likely to come form the two petrol engines currently available in the UK – the 1.0-litre and the more powerful 1.33-litre dual VVTi.

The reports also suggest that a battery-electric powertrain seen in the Toyota FT-EV concept could also feature in the future.
