Porsche 911 production may be cut later this year if demand doesn't pick up.

"We have to think about this if car sales continue to develop like this and do not recover again," a Porsche source told Automotive News.

The Porsche 911 is built at the Zuffenhausen plant near Stuttgart.

However, there are not expected to be any cuts at Porsche's Leipzig plant in Germany, where the Panamera and Cayenne are built.

Porsche has already cut costs to counteract dropping demand. It announced in January that it would cut cots by 100 million Euros in 2009, and extended the summer break at the Zuffenhausen plant by 19 days.

In the first nine months of the fiscal year to end-July, Porsche's sales fell 28 per cent to 53,635 vehicles.
