Global year-on-year production for May falls by 27 per cent; sales down 21.4 per cent

Nissan’s year-on-year global sales were down 21.4 per cent in May as the fall in demand for new cars continued.

The Japanese firm sold a total of 259,169 cars worldwide in last month. European and US sales were particularly poor, falling by 29.8 per cent and 33.1 per cent respectively.

Global production was also down in May, falling by 27 per cent to 201,340 units produced. UK production fared slightly better, with a fall of 19.9 per cent to 26,221 units.

China was the only region to show a year-on-year increase for May in both production and sales. Sales were up by 20.5 per cent to 57,949 units, while production was up 56.8 per cent to 40,340 units.
