Mercedes shows flagship super-saloons, but UK buyers will have to wait

Mercedes-Benz has released full details of its upcoming S63 and S65 AMG facelifted models, but UK buyers will have to wait up to six months before getting their hands on one.

The powerful S65 AMG keeps its mighty twin-turbo 6.0-litre V12, with headline figures of 603bhp and 737lb ft.

Mercedes S-class S63 AMG First Drive

AMG's seven-speed 7G-Tronic transmission features on the S63, but the older five-speed automatic unit from the SLR is fitted to the S65 because the newer seven-speed unit can’t handle the S65's power.

AMG has managed to reduce fuel consumption and CO2 emissions by up to three per cent on both cars.

Styling changes are subtle, with a more aggressively styled arrow-head front grille, which comes with chrome louvres on the S65.

The S65 AMG gets a 20-inch set of Titanium Grey alloy wheels, which can be bought as an option on the S63.

Active Body Control AMG sports suspension claims to offer a more stable ride, while inside, AMG sports seats come as standard and interior trim options range from full leather to a piano black lacquer crossed with carbonfibre AMG trim.

Both cars are set to go on sale in Germany this month, but UK buyers will have to wait anything up to six months before the cars arrive in the autumn, alongside the facelifted S-class.

Prices start in Germany at €115,700 (£99,000) for the S63 AMG and €185,900 (£160,000) for the S65 AMG. Pricing should be almost identical for the UK.
