Caterham will be able to sell its Superlight R300 across Europe after the company achieved pan-European homologation for the first time.
The niche British sports car firm had previously only achieved homologation on an individual nation basis, which is a costly and time consuming process.

But Caterham, working with powertrain supplier Ford Component Sales, has now been granted European Community Small Series Type Approval (ECSSTA) for the Superlight R300, a move which allows the manufacturer to sell in markets such as Eastern Europe for the first time.
Ansar Ali, managing director of Caterham Cars, said: “This is a huge achievement for a manufacturer of our size. It provides us with a new sense of freedom to build on, and expand, our already strong export market.
“We would like to thank Ford for all their support in the last few months of the homologation project.”
Much of the homologation work was carried out at Ford of Europe's state-of-the-art Dunton Technical Centre in Essex where the rapid prototyping system and test track were all used.
As well as the Superlight R300, the ECCSSTA applies to the Ford Duratec powered Roadsport 175, the 120bhp version of the Ford Sigma 1.6-litre unit and the 2.3-litre 200bhp Duratec.
