LTI, maker of the TX4 black cab, has confirmed its participation in the UK's scrappage scheme

LTI Vehicles, the maker of the iconic London black cab, has confirmed its participation in the government’s scrappage scheme.

The deal means that the latest Euro4-compliant TX4 taxis will be available to cabbies from £27,295, provided they are trading in a car 10 years old or more.

“We welcome this initiative from the government to stimulate sales and improve the quality of the UK’s taxi fleet,” said LTI’s sales director Rob Laidler.

“A new TX4 is so much safer, cleaner, more efficient and comfortable than a 10-year-old taxi that this will be a real benefit for drivers, customers and the environment, as well as helping UK automotive manufacturing through these tough times.”

Despite being significantly cleaner than its predecessors, the 101bhp VM Motori diesel motor in the TX4 still pumps out 211g/km CO2 (233g/km in automatic guise), and has a combined fuel consumption figure of 36.2mpg.
