Small SUV given more aggressive look

Volkswagen has launched a chunkier R Line version of its Tiguan SUV.

Using the Sport model as its basis, the new car features an enhanced bodykit and other add-ons, but no increase in power.

It has been designed and built by Volkswagen Individual, a separate engineering wing of Volkswagen established in 2003 and assigned to special projects including the Passat R36 and Touareg R50.

Visual changes include a new body-coloured front splitter sitting below the front bumper, blistered wheel arches and new R Line 19-inch multi-spoke alloy wheels fitted with 255/40 tyres.

A set of body-coloured sill extensions have been fitted and there is a new rear bumper complete with small diffuser and rear spoiler.

Inside the R Line is a new flat-bottomed multifunction steering wheel and contoured sports seats with ‘R’ logos. Two-zone climate control is fitted as standard.

The new R Line model is available with a range of 2.0-litre TDI common rail diesel engines with 138bhp and 168bhp outputs, as well as a 2.0-litre TSI engine developing 197bhp.

Sales of the R Line start in June. Prices start at £24,635 for the 2.0-litre 138bhp model, rising to £26,305 for the 2.0-litre TSI.
