Sporty model will be part of line-up - and may be on sale next year

Renault's electric car plans include a sporty Gordini version, the company's marketing boss Steve Norman has admitted.

The company plans to put a battery-powered small car on the market next year, and could even have the Gordini version available at launch according to Norman.

An electric Gordini will be the range-topping version of a battery-powered hatch designed for urban and suburban use. The price tag is expected to start as low as £12,000.

It will be the first of a family of electric vehicles planned by the company, which wants 30 per cent of its sales to come from EVs by the middle of the next decade.

Renault only recently announced plans to bring back the Gordini badge. According to Norman it's not going to replace the Renaultsport brand, but become the most exclusive version of the company's sporty models.
