Full details of VW's Golf Mk6-based five-seat MPV

The new VW Golf Plus compact MPV, based on the platform from the latest Mk6 Golf, has gone on sale in the UK, and it gets VW's Park Assist system as standard.

The new Park Assist technology, which operates steering inputs automatically when parking but allows the driver control of the throttle and brake, also fits the car into a space that’s 20 per cent smaller than the previous system could manage.

The new VW Golf Plus is available in just two trim levels – S or SE – but with a choice of four engines. There’s a naturally aspirated 79bhp 1.4 petrol, a 120bhp turbocharged 1.4, or two 2.0-litre common-rail diesels, with either 108bhp or 138bhp.

Transmissions include VW’s latest seven-speed DSG (although the diesel gets the older six-speed version), a six-speed manual and a five-speed manual (the only option for the lower powered petrol and diesel versions).

The VW Golf Plus is available to order now, with first deliveries at the end of April.

Prices range from £14,410 to £21,185.
