Auris will get Hybrid version, on sale in 2010

Toyota will reveal a hybrid version of one of its core European models – likely to be the Auris – at the Frankfurt show in September.

Toyota’s European sales and marketing boss, Andrea Formica, revealed that Toyota is concentrating on hybrid versions of its core European models, saying that a major announcement would be made at the Frankfurt show.

Although Formica would not confirm it, this is likely to mean the introduction of a Toyota Auris hybrid sometime during 2010.

Although Toyota confirmed last week that it will build a hybrid version of the Yaris, that car will be based on the next-generation model, and won’t even go on sale in Japan – let alone Europe – before 2011 at the earliest.

A Toyota Avensis hybrid, on the other hand, is unlikely because of the high volume of diesel sales in that car’s market segment.
