Concept car is named ahead of unveiling at next week's New York Motor Show

The concept car showing Honda’s BMW X6 rival will be called the Acura ZDX, the company has revealed ahead of the car's launch at next week’s New York Motor Show.

The SUV-coupe crossover concept car will be sold in the US only and is likely to be powered by Honda’s 3.7-litre V6 engine when it goes on sale in the autumn.

Jeff Conrad, vice-president of Acura sales, said: “The ZDX prototype is unlike anything you have ever seen before from Acura.

“The prototype showcases a new level of luxury, style and refinement for Acura and speaks volumes towards our commitment to advancing the brand.”

Honda is unlikely to sell the ZDX in Europe because of the current economic turmoil.

The Japanese firm has also confirmed it will halt production in its North American factories for 13 days in May, with reduced pay for factory workers, as a result of reduced demand.

Honda’s cuts will reduce its production by 62,000 vehicles.
