Verdict
The Cappuccino is not the toy that its looks and size at first suggest. If its sole purpose is to provide fun then the laughs should ring loud and long. Better still, there's a depth of ability that will impress enthusiasts and sideline the sceptics.
A pity, then, that the Cappuccino is not practical enough to be a serious everyday car, and rather too expensive to be an affordable fun car - a compromise the Mazda MX-5 strikes so well. Still, if you can't afford the Mazda, don't need the space yet want to tum heads on every corner while sitting in air-conditioned comfort, there's nothing else to touch it.
The first sporting Japanese micro car to make it to the UK looks terrific, has a superbly versatile roof and is solidly built. Its tiny dimensions, especially the width, make it feel agile and very wieldy on A-roads and the chassis and engine are high-tech masterpieces. A high price, lack of legroom and precious little luggage space mitigate against it being an MG Midget for the '90s.
