Verdict
If people like the appearance of the Koleos (we think it looks odd but not awful), that will count strongly in its favour. You may similarly be swayed by the apparent value of this fully loaded model, particularly when you see the cost of other rivals once specified to a similar level. You may also be swung by the excellent performance and refinement of its engine.
But despite these assets, there’s too much that compromises the Koleos for it to hope to challenge the top five in the class. Expensive to run, no fun at all to drive and with a less than welcoming interior, this is a car that struggles and ultimately fails to cut a convincing case for itself. It’s not bad and there are worse competitors, but when an all-new car comes to us for testing, we always look for it to add something to the standards of those around it. Bluntly, the Koleos doesn’t.
