Verdict
This Renault undeniably sets new standards of performance for the whole, keenly squabbling hot hatch back brigade, from its supermini fringe to the Golf GTI-Abarth 130 TC elite corps in the next class up.
If economy and four-seater space matter, the bigger cars may be preferred, and it is hard to be sure which has the most pleasing blend of handling and ride, but otherwise this new French hot hatchback contender is very fine indeed - and priced pretty competitively too.
