Verdict
It’s almost cruel to judge the Roadster by contemporary road test criteria. Its handling, safety, comfort and in particular braking and ride quality, show it to be the antique it is. Only in straight-line performance can the Morgan live with similarly priced modern sports cars, yet much of the time that performance is impossible to fully exploit. In providing a vintage experience in a new car the Roadster fulfils its brief: it’s disarmingly different, and would-be owners probably wouldn’t even consider anything else. But in the modern world – and at modern prices – the Roadster’s general discomfort and patchy finish are inexcusable.
