But you don’t buy an Evo on the strength of those figures. It’s an emotional purchase and thankfully still emphatically one of the most entertaining cars you can buy.
We can’t help feeling a little disappointed, though, that Mitsubishi hasn’t been a little braver with what could be the last-ever Lancer Evo. You can only play the same tune for so long before your credibility starts to evaporate – just ask Status Quo – and the eighth generation of the Evo isn’t quite the climactic swansong we had hoped for.
