Lotus Elan 1600 review - verdict

Lotus Elan 1600

Test Date 21 August 1964  Price When New £1,387

Verdict

 8 stars out of 10

To those with misgivings about the durability and value for money of the Lotus Elan, we can only at this stage say that the car seems much stronger and better-made than some of its predecessors.

Anyone to whom the Lotus is likely to appeal should try to arrange a trial run, because this is very much a driver’s car. The advantages, and the effects on the handling, of it being some 400-500lb lighter than competitive (though mainly cheaper) models on the market should be experienced as well as read about.
