Verdict
It might not be as quick as BMW’s 530d, but the S-type mates exceptional refinement, decent performance and sweet handling with a genuine sense of occasion. Somehow, Jaguar has turned the S-type on its head. Five years ago it missed the mark, two years ago it came back fighting and now, with fresher looks and the superb Dagenham-built diesel, the S-type has become a real force to be reckoned with.
