Daihatsu Materia

Price When New £10,995
Verdict
To understand the appeal of the Materia, you have to like its styling. If you do - and they do in Japan and America - you’ll find the Materia is a novel, interesting mini-MPV that’s not without merit. Its performance is relatively strong, there is ample room for four occupants and, in places, there is just as much interest to its interior design as in its exterior.
Fail to be impressed by the styling, however, and the Materia falls rather shorter of expectations. The soft suspension provides neither quite enough comfort nor any appeal to a more enthusiastic driver, and its purchase price puts it up against some very competent alternatives whose running costs may be cheaper. If the Materia does not win you over with its design, it will not win you over at all.
