BMW 730d SE review - verdict
BMW 7 Series 730d SE Road Test
Test Date 03 December 2008
Price When New £53,730
Verdict
The new 7-series is a deeply impressive car, especially in 730d SE guise, which appears to offer an unbeatable combination of performance and economy, mated to an unusually generous level of equipment for the price.
No matter how superb the 730d’s performance, economy and emissions appear on paper, it fails to tread new ground when it comes to luxury transport.
Without its excellent engine and gearbox it would feel much like any other 7-series from the past 10 years, but without the edge of driver appeal that has distinguished the car in years gone by.
Ignoring your USP is never a wise route to take, and on this occasion it does the 7-series very few favours. Despite being an excellent car technically and on paper, it is curiously disappointing in reality. A Mercedes S-class it is not.
