Verdict
There’s no magic recipe for producing the perfect executive car and many manufacturers have found it difficult to sate the desires of customers who expect their £30k saloons to provide a blend of performance, luxury and agility in equal measures. It’s why we haven’t taken to the new BMW 5-series in quite the way we did to the old one, but for the first time an Audi A6 has come close to hitting all those targets.
Dynamically, in particular, this new car represents a giant leap from its successor, although our enthusiasm is tempered by the crashy ride that undermines the Audi’s ability to treat British roads with the disdain it should.
If, however, you’re not overly sensitive to ride quality or to the more showy styling, then this new A6, Audi’s best crack yet at creating the supreme executive saloon, deserves serious consideration.
