Aston Martin DB4 review - verdict

Aston Martin DB4 3.7

Test Date 13 October 1961  Price When New £4,084

Verdict

 9 stars out of 10

The DB4 is an ideal long-distance touring car, in which great distances can be covered in amazingly short times. It’s fast, refined and well-mannered – a constant pleasure to drive.

The controls, at least on the car tested, were a little on the heavy side; indeed, it’s not a light car. By any standards, though, it is a tractable and flexible one – to a remarkable extent for a car with this performance.

The DB4 naturally encourages a measured, leisurely driving style in towns and in crowded traffic conditions, which isn’t frustrating in the least. As soon as the open road is reached, you can accelerate clear and pass the lot.
