Once inside the Countach, and having pulled down the vertically opening, hydraulically counterbalanced door, one feels noticeably enclosed, although not too much so for a 6ft driver, who has around half-an-inch of headroom. In contrast to the extrovert exterior styling, the layout and design of instruments and controls are straightforward. The steering wheel is a pleasingly plain three-spoke, thick, leather-rimmed one.
Forward vision is good but the view behind is virtually blind. The boot proper, which is behind the engine compartment, is really quite generous for this type of car.
The provision of twin 13.2-gallon tanks, one on each side, suggest quite heavy fuel consumption – but this will hardly come as an unpredictable shock to the Countach driver. Given the 500S’s 14.6mpg in our hands, we would be surprised if any owner buys this Lamborghini with fuel saving in mind.
