Alfa Romeo Alfasud review - living

Alfa Romeo Alfasud 1.2

Test date 20 September 1973  Price as tested £1,471

If you happen to be shaped like a typical Italian male, the Alfasud driving position fits like a glove. However, anyone long in the legs or taller than about 5ft 8in will have trouble getting comfortable behind the wheel.

Seat material on the test cars was cloth, but there is the option of PVC known as Texalfa. In the hot weather we experienced during the test the cloth was cool to sit on and well ventilated. By making the wheelbase of the Alfasud as long as possible for the overall length of 12ft 9in and putting the engine ahead of the front wheels, Alfa has given the car a maximum of legroom inside, the total front and rear adding up to 2in more than the Ford Escort.
