Against Price, not as versatile as the competition
When Vauxhall starts selling the Meriva in June, it will be targeting buyers who may not have considered taking the MPV plunge before.
In base trim, the Meriva starts at £11,000, firing it straight into the heart of hatchback territory, where its MPV levels of packaging and space ought to hand it a real advantage.
It’s an enticing prospect for those on a tight budget, with a young family, and Vauxhall is sweetening the prospect further by playing up the innovative and popular Zafira’s influence on the Meriva’s design.
But discounting is rife in this sector at the moment, meaning that larger MPVs like the Citroen Picasso can be had for similar money. To gain ground here, the Meriva needs a large dose of the Zafira’s versatility, combined with hatch-like dynamics. Can it succeed?
