Rover SD1 Vitesse review

Rover SD1 3500 Vitesse

Test date 12 February 1983  Price as tested £15,176

There will always be a market for high performance cars, either in the guise of an out-and-out sports machine or, like the Rover Vitesse, intended as a high performance variant of an existing range, capitalising on the recent success earned by racing versions of the car. Certainly it has been clear ever since the car was introduced (in October 1977) that significant increases in power and torque would be possible without any sacrifice in refinement. The Vitesse gets 190bhp and 220lb ft of torque, lowered and stiffened suspension and a large tailgate spoiler.
