Perhaps it should be called the Porsche Controversy. In bloodline terms the Cayenne has no heritage beyond the engineering knowledge it shares with other Porsche road cars; so from the moment company CEO Wendelin Wiedeking announced that Porsche would be making an SUV, marque devotees were shell-shocked. Drive before you judge, was Porsche’s riposte. And what a fascinating prospect the Cayenne is: a 444bhp SUV honed on all terrains, wearing what seems a ‘reasonable’ £68,970 price underpinned by the most respected sports car badge in the whole world.
