Porsche Boxster review
Porsche Boxster 2.7 Road Test
Test date 11 January 2005
Price as tested £32,640
For Fabulous chassis, build quality, brand, refinement
Against Limited performance, imprecise gearbox
The Boxster arrived in 1996 with just one job — to save Porsche. It shared much of its componentry with the forthcoming 911 — there was no money for anything else. Eight years and over 120,000 cars later, that job is long since done.
Early Boxsters were nice enough but fairly anaemic thanks to their 204bhp, 2.5-litre engines. It was only when the motor was enlarged to 2.7 litres and the 3.2-litre Boxster S was introduced in 1999 that it really felt entirely deserving of the shield of Stuttgart on its nose.
