Morris Minor 1000 review
Morris Mini Minor 1000 Road Test
Test date 14 December 1956
Price as tested £668
From its introduction in 1948, the Morris Minor established a reputation for class-leading road-holding in the family saloon sector, a quality in part attributable to its four-square stance and unusually wide front track. Interestingly, the width between the front wheels was determined by the need to accommodate the horizontally opposed, four-cylinder engine used in the prototype on which the first Minor was based. When it was decided to discard the flat-four motor in favour of the well-established side-valve Morris engine, it was decided to retain the original track dimensions.
