Mercedes’ obsession with grouting all the gaps in the car classes continues. Recently we’ve seen the CLS saloon/coupe, the R-class SUV/estate and this, the B-class, a mini MPV in all but name.
As we shall see, there is more than one reason why Mercedes demurs from calling the B-class an MPV. But suffice to say for now that it slots into the ranges above the A-class but well below the conventional C-class saloon.
Four petrol and two diesel versions are on sale in the UK, our focus this time falling on the B180CDI diesel, priced at what looks at first glance to be a rather steep £18,995.
