If it is surprising that we have waited over 30 years for this, the new MG, it is altogether more amazing that it is here at all.
Since the MGB appeared in 1962, the marque has had to survive on a diet of increasingly old and unappetising products, suffer both the indignity of having its name poached and plastered across a range of largely undeserving cars and, in between, long periods on the shelf. Most marques would have given up the struggle. Yet still the name retains its magic. With its name, looks and a list price of £15,995, the MGF’s potential is clear. Question is, does it live up to it?
