Five main bearings are becoming more the rule than the exception for four-cylinder engines, and since October last the MG MGB’s 1798cc power unit has had this layout. A few detail changes have also been made, among them the option of overdrive at just over £60 extra. Chief gains are smoothness and reduced stress at cruising speeds.
