Mercedes has a stake in Hyundai, which owns Kia, and General Motors now controls Daewoo, but despite the involvement of the global players the change in perception of Korean cars is more likely to be led by hero models.

The first was the Hyundai Coupe; it’s simply desirable, and the fact that it’s Korean barely registers. When we first drove the new Kia Sorento we thought it could be the next.
