For Heroic drive, agility, roomy cabin
Against Styling inside and out, thirst
The 612 belongs to the two-plus-two wing of Ferrari’s long history of evocative front-engine, V12, GT cars. The 456, 412, 400, 365 GT4, 365 GT and 330 GT strain has never been as popular, or as collectible, as the closely related two-seat V12s like the 365 GT4 Daytona, 275 GTB, 330 GTC and, more recently, 550/575M Maranellos. Ferrari concentrated on the mid-engined V12 Testarossa in the ’80s and early ’90s, though small numbers of 412s were built until 1989. The 1992 456 GT marked a return to the more traditional layout, and by the time the 550 arrived in 1996, the mid-engined GT was dead.
