Citroen DS review

Citroën DS19 1911cc

Test date 19 April 1963  Price as tested £1,568

Spoken phonetically in French, the initials ‘DS’ mean a goddess, and this Citroën somehow feels aptly named. The design, in line with previous Citroën practice, is certainly long-lasting: it was first introduced nearly eight years ago, and tested in The Autocar of December 7, 1956, since when there have been only slight detail changes. In appearance, the styling might be described as out of this world, and the ability of the hydropneumatic suspension to smooth out chaussee deformee at almost any speed is rather like one would expect cloud-flying to feel.
