Citroën C3 Pluriel (03-) 1.6i 16v Sensodrive 2dr review

Citroën C3 Pluriel 1.6i 16v Sensodrive

Test date 11 June 2003  Price as tested £15,895

In 2003, buyers face a bewildering choice of niche vehicles, even if they only have mainstream hatch money to spend. Now Citroen wants to confuse them even further by offering the Pluriel, which claims to be five cars in one.

It’s so wacky that the concept Citroen showed in 1999 – it always planned to build it - didn’t need any of the mad, not-for-production features usually tacked onto a show car to draw the crowds. What we saw was pretty much what we now get.

But do we need this much versatility? Will the Pluriel’s many configurations be of real use, especially in British weather conditions? Or is Citroen trying too hard to maintain its reputation for free-thinking motoring design?
