The original Crossfire concept appeared in 2001; its unusual styling immediately created plenty of interest, with its distinctive central ‘spine’ that ran the length of the car’s body.

When the production car appeared last year, based on first-generation Mercedes–Benz SLK mechanicals and built by Karmann in Germany, much of the original look remained. After all this was Chrysler, the company that had the guts to put the original Dodge Viper and Plymouth Prowler into production. The convertible version is the next logical step in the Crossfire’s evolution.
