Bentley Turbo R review

Bentley Turbo R 6.75

Test date 15 July 1987  Price as tested £79,890

For Opulence and speed nicely blended

Against Economy, size

Rolls-Royce has long built its reputation on superb build standards and exceptional refinement. One of the cornerstones of that refinement is an engine that is understressed by any normal standard. It was therefore a natural choice, once the decision had been made to build a higher-performance Bentley image, that turbocharging should be the chosen route. The adoption of a turbocharger boost system gave far more power and torque than Rolls-Royce owners could ever previously have dreamed of, but the application was – and is – strictly Bentley.
