Aston Martin DB4 review

Aston Martin DB4 3.7

Test date 13 October 1961  Price as tested £4,084

For A fabulous GT, and the fastest four-seater yet

Against Heavy controls

Although Aston reserves the GT badge for the even faster, two-seater DB4 GT, the 2+2 DB4 nevertheless takes the Gran Turismo concept to new levels. It is the fastest production four-seater The Autocar has yet tested.

Since this model was first introduced in October 1958, using a direct development of the six-cylinder 3.7-litre engine that made its debut in the DBR2-370 racer at Le Mans the previous year, it has been updated twice.

In April this year a Laycock de Normanville overdrive became available. The latest changes embrace a new Borg and Beck clutch and revised radiator grille.
